Founder and leader of the research group (3-5 people) at ITMO University
Research field:
Mathematical Foundations of AI
Work format:
Permanent relocation to St. Petersburg
Remote work is not possible
Eligibility
  • PhD / Doctor of Sciences in Mathematics

  • At least 8 publications (WoS/Scopus) in the field of mathematics in the last 5 years, publication of articles in Q1 mathematical journals and A* level conferences (priority)
  • Experience leading research projects
  • Awarded grants in which the candidate serves as the principal investigator
    All aforementioned criteria are preferable, but not mandatory. Outstanding applicants with other professional achievements supported by extra documents are also welcome to apply.
Job responsibilities
  • Defining long-term research topics for the group
  • Setting research tasks and coordinating their implementation within the group
  • Assessing research results
  • Refinement of research directions in response to progress and discoveries
  • Leading the process of interpreting research results for further publications
  • Оpportunity of supervising Master's and PhD students
  • Оpportunity of design and teach courses for Master’s students
Research experience
  • Research in mathematics and potential applications in AI:

  • Topology: Explanation on how topology can be used to simplify data and provide insights into complex AI models

  • Probability and statistics: Description of the use of MCMC (Markov chain Monte Carlo) for reinforcement learning and uncertainty resolution
  • Classical optimization theory: the Monge-Kantorovich problem, the development of fast optimization methods (e.g., zero-order methods)
  • Non-traditional optimization methods: Evolutionary calculations of guaranteed accuracy for mixed optimization and search optimization tasks
  • Computational methods: Explanation on how the use of special computer architectures can accelerate AI computational procedures
  • Experience in developing computing software would be a benefit
